Catan - by Klaus Teuber
My current favorite board game. I can enjoy playing other games, but this one has familiar a feeling about it. Many expansions were born onto the success of the original game, and so the game mechanics changed, evolved. I could not hold myself to manufacture more rules and elements to the game. This game is completely mine, however I got the inspiration partially from Catan. As soon as I see something fantastic, I both get cheered up, and start to think about why didn't I have the idea? Or if I had, why didn't I do it similarly? In case of Catan I saw, that the hexag tesselation is, which guide the gameplay. It make the game special. So I was up to making a game, which is similarly based on some simple mathematical shape. Not even worth mentioning, that I did not find any better tesselation for a board game. Hexagons are just really cool in that. However, I got a new calipers and of course I check how easy is it to handle. The result was this game, basically. The core concept is, that players have figures, which can move along the circles and whenever two circle meet, there is a waypoint. Later, I added more waypoints between the existing points. And so, the game slowly begin to fade out ahead of me.
